Winko An

I am a Staff Scientist in the Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where I study how the human brain develops in early childhood.

My work combines EEG, neuroimaging, and machine learning to build objective neural markers of attention, language, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and Fragile X syndrome. I earned my PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, decoding attentional control from noninvasive brain measures, and have built brain–computer interfaces during research at Microsoft Research.

Research Interests
  • 01Neurodevelopment & clinical neuroscienceEEG markers of attention and language in infants and children, including autism, Fragile X, and Phelan–McDermid syndrome.
  • 02Brain–computer interfacesDecoding auditory, tactile, and multisensory attention from EEG and fMRI for user-friendly BCIs.
  • 03Computational methods for neuroimagingMachine learning and deep learning for EEG, including brain-age prediction across early development.
  • 04Global & translational healthScalable, mobile neural measures of child development in low-resource settings.
